In general African music is closely linked to ritual and ceremonial
activity but some music does exist for purely entertainment purposes.
There is a great variety of tone quality in African DRUMS which is
one of the reasons for the unique sound.
Another reason that African music sounds so different and
interesting is that unlike Western music, the pulse is not always
performed even the constantly changing rhythmic combinations are linked by
a felt beat or pulse which keeps the music fluid.
