The vocal and instrumental folk
music of
AUSTRIA
is characterized by two musical forms, the jodler
and the landler.
The jodler, or yodeling,
which is also common in Switzerland makes use of the falsetto upper voice
rapidly alternating with low chest tones
The landler is music used
to accompany an outdoor folk dance in ¾ meter which includes hopping and
stamping. Two famous Austrian
composers, Mozart and Haydn
and both wrote landler tunes.
