An enormous range of drums can be found in
GHANA
and throughout
Africa
. A wide variety of tone color
and pitch is achieved by constructing drums of different length and
circumference and by changing the tension of the skin. “Talking drums”
are held under the arm and by putting pressure on the strings attached to
the drum head, subtle pitch changes accurately represent the inflection of
speech. When categorizing
these world instruments we use the term MEMBRANOPHONES.
