The mixture of South American Indian, African and European cultures in
PERU
is reflected in their music. The
FLUTE was much cultivated in
Peru
and in fact its melancholy sound was so evocative that early Spanish
religious authorities tried to prevent its use!
Music of the Incas is still performed among the populations of the
high plateaux of the
Andes
. This music is strongly pentatonic
(5 note) with five modes (or
scales) each taking one of these notes as its tonal
center.
